Orthopedic and Spine Specialist Abiola A. Atanda, M.D. Joins OrthoConnecticut

dr atandaOrthoConnecticut has announced that Orthopedic Spine Surgeon, Abiola A. Atanda, M.D., will join the practice on August 15th. He will have office hours in the Danbury, Southbury, and New Milford office locations.

“I am excited to be joining the outstanding team at OrthoConnecticut,” says Dr. Atanda. “This is an incredible opportunity for me to work with a team of physicians equally committed to providing quality spine care for patients. I look forward to working alongside leaders in the field to provide specialized spine care, and state-of-the-art cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine surgery to our patients.”

Dr. Atanda earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Fisk University and obtained his medical degree from Meharry Medical College School of Medicine, both in Tennessee. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at New York University Langone Orthopedic Hospital (Hospital for Joint Diseases). Dr. Atanda went on to perform advanced training in adult and pediatric spine surgery during his fellowship in Orthopedic and Neurosurgery at the world-renowned Norton Leatherman Spine Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Dr. Atanda is committed to individualized care to achieve excellent patient outcomes, through optimal nonsurgical and surgical care. He specializes in navigation and robotic-assisted surgery for degenerative and deformity surgery, as well as in treatment for trauma, tumors, and infections of the spine.

Dr. Atanda is fellowship trained and has published numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles on orthopedics and the spine. He is also passionate about global spine care. He was a visiting academic physician at FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital in Ghana, a nonprofit organization started by the world-renowned Spine Surgeon, Dr. Oheneha Boachie-Adjei. Dr. Atanda is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society. He has been honored and awarded as the Carl J. Herzog Presidential Award Recipient, Dorothy M. Forde-Bolden MD Award, and with Beta Kappa Chi National Honors. He will be operating out of Danbury Hospital and the Western Connecticut Orthopedic Surgical Center (WCOSC).
